Where Can I Charge my Mustang Mach E and how?
Even if you’ve seen the viral video of a Mach-E getting charged on a tesla Supercharger, don’t believe your eyes. The cable is simply attached in the video, but no charging continues. Short answer - no, you can’t charge your Ford Mach-E at the Tesla Supercharger.
And although Tesla’s chargers are undoubtedly the best and quickest as of 2022, Ford has invested a ton in improving the charging infrastructure across North America. In this article, you will learn how to charge your Mustang Mach-E.
What There Is To Know About The Ford Mustang Mach-E Charging Stations
Generally, you can charge your EV Mustang with a Type-2 Connector. That can happen at work, at home, or at most public charging points. While type 2 connectors are the most common, they can be quite slow. The good news is that the Mach-E can also be charged with a Rapid CSS connector with a max DC rate of 115 kW.
The Mach-E comes with the built-in FordPass Power My Trip that would guide you to finding the nearest publicly available charging point if needed.
Ford has started and is planning to invest more than $30 billion into expanding the Ford Mach-E charging stations network. Of course, other EVs would also be able to take advantage of the investment, but currently, the Mach-E comes with a standard set of chargers.
Upon purchase, the owner receives a stock Ford Mobile Charger which has the specifics listed below:

The BlueOval charging network is spread across the states and Canada. Unfortunately, some of the inner states are yet to receive a good amount of charging stations, but as of 2022, both the East and West coasts are very well equipped.
Should You Get a Level 2 Charger?
A level 2 charger would allow you to charge your Mustang Mach-E overnight at home, taking advantage of the cheaper nocturnal electricity costs. It can be considered an investment that could pay off pretty quickly, depending on where you live.
How Long Does It Take for The Mustang Mach-E To Charge?
How long it takes for the battery to fully load depends on the usage of different charging stations for Ford Mach-E, as the time could vary from 30 hours to 30 minutes for a full charge.
It takes around the same amount of electricity and time to charge the Ford Mustang Mach-E as the time it takes a Tesla to charge.
To What Percent Should You Charge your Mach-E?
If you are wondering why we are using 0 to 80% in our metrics, to be fair, most EV manufacturers, even when stating that a vehicle is charged to 100%, really consider the best maximum charge to be 80% or 90% to prolong the life of the battery and prevent electric overload.
Although EVs usually have a built-in limit, it is still recommended to charge your Ford Mach-E up to a maximum of 80% or 90%.
The only situation in which Ford suggests the driver should charge their EV up to 100% is when undertaking longer trips, especially in areas that are limited in terms of supercharger stations.
How Much Does It Cost To Charge a Mach-E?
The costs of charging an electric vehicle greatly depend on your state of you since the electric energy prices vary. On another note, these prices also fluctuate, influenced by the hours you charge your car.
The 30-hour charge with a slow 3kW charger you saw above in the table would cost you around $10 on average. And let’s compare this with another case.
Imagine using the 7kW charger during peak hours when electricity is the most expensive. And if you are based in California, with the highest electricity prices, the cost to charge your Mach-E in nine hours can get up to $30.
The cheapest way to charge your car is at night at home, taking advantage of the overnight period discount. Considering all this, the cost is roughly the same as you would spend on charging a Tesla.

Final thoughts
There are more than 16,000 Ford Mach-E charging stations where you can publicly charge your car in the BlueOval charging network. Several other public charging networks can be used as long as they support a type 2 or a Rapid CSS connector.
Of course, you can also charge your beloved Mustang in the comfort of your home. Although it is important to note that a 120V outlet takes quite a while to charge your car. Getting a 240V outlet installed at my home is one of the first things I would do after exhausting the beautiful Mustang’s battery.
